Executive Spotlight: Edward Carey, Managing Director of Good Energy/FBR Energy

For Good Energy’s Managing Director Edward Carey, sailing on the open ocean is a lot like energy consulting.

“Even if you’re a passenger on a boat, you’re part of the team,” says Carey, who has been with Good Energy for more than 18 years. “Every 10 to 20 seconds, you have to adjust to wind conditions, current and speed, changing weight distribution while navigating through the water. Helping energy clients requires a similar kind of expert reaction.”

Also dovetailing with his work life, Carey is an avid outdoorsman and is heavily involved in Ducks Unlimited, a conservation organization dedicated to preserving wetlands habitats.

“My favorite thing about working at Good Energy is the innovation and creativity of the company,” Carey says. “I love meeting new people, new customers and the camaraderie while building energy-related and sustainable programs to help customers.”

Carey assists North American clients such as the New York Municipal Energy Program (NYMEP), Educational Services Commission of New Jersey (ESCNJ), and major corporations in Texas and Illinois to develop energy-saving programs. In addition, Carey has been growing the company’s international business as Senior Business Development Manager of FBR Energy, Good Energy’s United Kingdom division which provides energy consulting services to commercial and industrial properties throughout Europe.

Before joining Good Energy, Carey was the City of New York Senior Policy Advisor within the Mayor’s Office of Environment Coordination for the Giuliani and Bloomberg administrations for energy consumption, purchasing and sustainable-related issues. Prior to that, Carey’s extensive background in the energy industry included serving as an energy sales representative for Hess Corporation.
